The Raggs Bag Interview: Raggs Owner Tom Maloney

For three decades Tom Maloney has been providing contemporary, modern menswear to customers throughout New Haven. Specializing in fashion that looks great whether dressed up or down, Maloney’s concept transformed into Raggs - Fashions for Men. While now a fixture in the downtown New Haven area, Raggs opened in 1984 on the day after Thanksgiving in northern New Haven. The Westville location lasted until 1988, with Maloney and Raggs moving to 1020 Chapel Street, where to this day customers can get everything from a well tailored suit to forward thinking casual wear. On the eve of his 30th anniversary in business, The Raggs Bag spoke to Tom Maloney about the history of Raggs, New Haven and the evolving culture of men’s fashion.

Whether it's a casual Friday or you want to dress casually sophisticated, the look curated below will definitely make a great impression. We started with the cozy yet crisp feel of the Ingram flannel shirt, under our new soft herringbone sportcoat- "The Hopper" from J. Lindeberg. Gave a little edge with a light grey Hugo regular fit jean and put it all together with the Hugo teddybear brown suede belt. This look can be worn with boots, loafers or any pair from Raggs' shoe collection.

Raggs 30th Anniversary Celebration

Join us on Saturday, November 22 to celebrate Raggs 30th Anniversary.

Since 1984, Raggs has been a fixture in New Haven for modern, high-end menswear. Consistently evolving with the years, Raggs has always provided an alternative for our customers, whether dressing up or down.

"Raggs has stayed relevant to the fashion minded customers of New Haven because our direction never changed. We are modern in style and fit," says founder and business owner Tom Maloney.

In honor of our first year in business, Raggs will take 19.84% off all regularly priced items. The store will also present an exclusive trunk show courtesy of the Denmark based label SAND, a featured brand in the Raggs collection. SAND representative Rian Gardner will present select items from the SAND Winter 2014 collection as well as an exclusive preview of SAND's Spring 2015 collection.

Raggs will also donate 10% of the proceeds of all SAND items sold to Common Ground, a New Haven based High School, Urban Farm and Environmental Education Center. Common Ground looks to "cultivate habits of healthy living and sustainable environmental practice among a diverse community of children, families and adults."
